If you accept the one GMC built for every three Chevy trucks..then there were about 566 made then.

How exactly are you arriving at that number?

I still wish I could find out how many '72s were popped out of the St. Louis plant... my brother's cheyenne short bed has a REALLY high production number (much higher than the average production per plant), so it's gotta be really close to the end for that plant.

My source "67-72 Chevrolet Pickups" by John Gunnellson (sp) estimates more like 5:1 or 6:1 ratio of Chevys to GMC's. I'm of the opinion that if you factor in all trucks including series 40 and higher the 3:1 ratio is probably accurate, but with light duty pickups I'd wager it's more like 5:1. Remember Chevy had a lot more dealerships than GMC had. You will find areas of the country where GMC's appear to be equally as plentiful as Chevys if not more so. These "pockets" are probably where a GMC dealership existed.

I'd bet a lot more Chevys were ordered as fleet vehicles too.

My 2 cents

Did GMC's have their own dealerships? I was under the impression that they were sold thru Pontiac dealerships back "in the day."
that's right about the pockets of GMC's, though. I have only seen one other GMC around here (and a K/2500 at that, too!) but something like 12-14 Chevy's.

I have always been told the 3 to 1...but I agree, it seems more like 6 to 1.
