Re: bezel lights

Dang ya post from your cell and ya cant edit later...

Had my dash gauge assy out to install a new bezel. After reinstalling I noticed a wire and light socket hanging under the dash on the left side of the steering column that looks like it was plugged into the back of the gauge assy wire was white if i remember correctly. Any idea which hole this would plug into? I don't think i put all the light sockets back into the same hole location, didn't take a pic before hand (lesson learned)

Re: bezel lights

Sounds like your shift indicator fiber optic hooked to a dash bulb. That bulb can be plugged into any dash socket and the light travels through the fiber optic wire to the pointer on the shifter

Re: bezel lights

Fiber optic in the 70's?? Didn't know they had that back then..

I'll get back under the dash tomorrow and trace the wire to see if i can figure out where it goes, still wish would have snapped a pic of the dash assy before i pulled out all the bulb's because there were at least 2 ports with nothing in them. I'm searching now for any info i can find, pictures ect.. Thanks, keep the advice flowing!

Re: bezel lights

Fiber optic in the 60's too. My '69 has one, and yes- JoJaboy is correct. That's what it is for.

It is what is lighting up the D on my column

Re: bezel lights

Yeah that's how they got light up to the shift pointer. Does it look like a white wire connected to a brass bracket around the bulb base?

Re: bezel lights

That fiber optic should go over to the column. To figure out your empty spots shine a small flashlight in them and see what lights up

Re: bezel lights

I appreciate the reply's and i think there may be a brass bracket or something on the back of the socket but i'll have to look at it again, the socket looks to me like it does fit into the dash, i still need to know which port it was plugged into

Does anybody have a pic of how the harness it routed down the steering column? mine has been moved and i do need to get it back in the proper position, i think i'll need to remove the brackets holding it in place... Maybe the white lead is hooked into this harness, i just didn't have time to take a close look befor i left for work.

Thanks again!
