97 case relearn?

97 5.7 k1500, will I have to do a case relearn since I rebuilt the engine and had everything apart? If so is there a way to do it without a scanner? I read about this but its as clear as mud to me as to which years you have to do 1 on, I know the newer ls engines you have to but what about the obs? thanks in advance, getting ready to maybe finish this thing this weekend.

No if you did not change the PCM, you will not have to relearn.

You will have to do a cam offset retard adjustment and it does require a real time data scanner. You could have a dealer do it.

Here's the service manual page on how to do it http://carphotos3.cardomain.com/imag...3430_large.jpg

Re: 97 case relearn?

thanks speedy, I got the cam retard set, for those of you that don't know the new c-reader model ???123 has the live stream data that has the cmp retard, this scanner is about $300 off the tool truck, I know for awhile the only ones that would do it were the gm tech2 and snapon big scanner but this handheld c-reader will do it also.
