Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I got my new frame; everything stripped and finished mocking up all the suspension. I am very happy with the new frame, especially since the last one was junk. Just wish I would have bought a better condition truck to begin with. Oh well.
I was originally going to go with a PB rear kit, but I think I want the box intact, so I will use this and if I get tired of it, I will order the PB mild kit for the rear. I must say, though after dealing with Porterbuilt, the CPP Notches are complete **** in comparison, no quality what so ever, the holes don’t line up, the bends don’t line up. Good thing I have a torch to persuade it. Here are some pics. |

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
It been a while since I post anything, so here are some updates. I have most of my floor repairs done. Just need to finish off my cab corners and time for paint. I have quite decided If I want to fully paint it or make it have a patina look.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I installed my PB hinges and recently started welding in patches to smooth the firewall.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I am wondering what tire and rim size I can run with my PB drop member. does anyone know what the max rim or tire size is? I think the stockers that I have on there are 15" 225 70r. I think the tire height was about 28" and I only have about 1/2" of clearance at full drop.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
Nice job! I have a long bed too and am interested in the stance yours will have when the bodies all together. I'll keep watching.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
Thanks, it sits on the ground in the front. A little higher in the back than I like. But I want to have a full box to use. And the air ride will make it ride nice.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
Finally got my firewall done, I don't have the final pictures up on here yet. but here are few. sucks because I didn't have large enough pieces of sheet metal to work with. A little grinding and bondo should take care of the most of it. A lot of it will be hidden by the master cylinder and the column poking out of it.
Another pic of my brakes |

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I was able to get the cab corners in last week. there is a little grinding left, but the majority of it is complete.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I had some issues the other night uploading pictures. I was able to get my cab corners in and welded up. I was able to get them mostly ground down. My floors all finished and everything is welded and tacked into place. its finally coming along.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I found a set of 68 Chevy fenders thanks to a member here in Minnesota. They were even the correct color! I blasted them quickly to get the paint mostly removed. overall they are better than what I had before. Just a few dents to repair and I may need to replace the lower quarter on the passenger side.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I put the hood on to make sure everything lines up. and it does mostly. Just a few modifications and they should be a good fit. I had to replace a portion of steel on passenger side of the radiator support. It appears that the battery was leaking and corroded it badly.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I also didn't like the way the firewall turned out, so I decided to get some 1/8 steel plate and cut what I did out and replace it. I have the drivers side in. When I get more time I will get the passenger side in as well and take some more pictures. Hopefully by the end of July I should have the truck in primer.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I finally had some time this weekend. I redid the firewall with 3/16 plate and now there is no more warping. Just need to finish the welding the top filler plate around the wire channel and it shall be done. I also welded up a battery box as well. I may make a cover for it. I haven't decided though.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed
I finally had some time do work on the truck. I welded in the step notches and fabricated a the bridge. I also welded in the bag brackets and mounted the bags and tested. Its too bad my welding sucks, I'll most likely grind down the welds so no sees them lol
