Quick drip rail repair?

The wino who painted my truck a while back did a poor job (at best) on the drip rail. Now it is all cracked and I am afraid water is getting in where it doesn't need to be (unfortunately Ole Green lives outside right now).

Is there something I could patch it up with to stop further damage until I can get it fixed properly?

You need to clean all that out and use a drip rail caulk. There are a lot of threads covering the subject, but honestly it just adds to my confusion about what product to use. Good luck!

I just repaired mine by cleaning all the old out with a brass wire brush in a die grinder, treating with POR15 then SEM heavy build self leveling seam sealer. planning on painting very soon

There's no such thing as a quick drip rail caulk repair, unless you want to be redoing it again soon

I agree 100% on the por 15 and self leveling drip check.

My opinion is get the sealer out, then the rust, then fix the metal. From the amount of rust it looks like the metal is rusted through so you've got trouble. Old vehicles rust from the inside out so what you see is the tip of the rustberg.

POR is another bandaid so you'll be back fixing it in a few years.

A wire brush polishes rust, making it look like metal. Run some sandpaper over it before believing your eyes.

make a little catch at the bottom with some tape and then slowly go over the area 2 or 3 times

A tarp would work in a pinch. You could use the spare tire to hold it down when parked. Not very appealing but anything else short of doing it right will just be a mess.
