right is subjective to your standards and what your expectations are.

my build is an ls3 with 6l90e... thats what is right for me and my build...

for me that ls3 is gonna be over 400hp and be a reliable daily driver. when i get bored i throw on a super charger and hit 500+horses and still have a daily driver.

others right is a 502 big block cam'd to hell that barely idles and sounds like the wrath of god and and requires 12 in slicks and a ladder bar and a parachute to stop.

based on the ittle information given ... a 5.3 with a 4l80e or a 6.0 with a 4l80e would give you the reliability and ease of a modern vehicle. in other words.... get in and drive go anwhere you want without fear of a breakdown

Re: ls or not

Right can be done with a Gen1 350 that you have. But it can also be a Gen 2 LT1 or a LSx. The LT1 and LSx take a lot more work and money to get "right".
Personally for a daily driver there just is no question. LSx rules the day. I love Gen 1 small blocks built many, raced many, and destroyed many. GM keeped every good point of the Gen1 and fixed all the bad with the Gen3/4.

A 5.3 is always a perfect choice for most guys. But a LS3 is shear fun. If money is less of a concern look up the LS3 E-rod. It's about 8 grand but all new and designed for what we are doing with a warranty.

I say... If you want it "right" as a daily driver go LSx.

Re: ls or not

If you are gonna drive it, fuel injection and overdrive will help a lot. Now fuel injection can take several forms. I like to keep it stock GM so parts are readily available in case of breakdown. You could keep your stock bottom end, heads, and accessories with throttle body or tuned-port (TBI or TPI) or most aftermarket injection systems. You can keep your stock exhaust and motor mounts with LT1, but none of the accessories. If I was building a project today, it would be hands down LS power. The reliability is great. The power and fuel economy is great. That is the direction I would go.

5.3, 4L60e. Available everywhere, reasonably priced, lots of info available, lots of parts available to do the swap, lots of help here to do the swap, reliable and good mileage. loving mine. You'll want to do the disk brake upgrade also.

Re: ls or not

My h/c/i LQ4 averaged 18mpg on the last tank. Probably 50% town, 50% 2 lane backroads, 20% WOT fun.

Yes, that's 120% of fun.

The old 350 got what, 12 and would hardly turn a tire.

There's no reason not to.
