Installing a fuel filler hose in a '63?

Okay, I tried searching for this topic but no luck. The search thing just hangs.

The fuel filler on my 63 is leaking. I have the replacement parts but am not really sure how to go about it. Anybody have pointers, tips, tricks, etc for a successful install?

thanks!

Re: Installing a fuel filler hose in a '63?

I did this on my 65, cab mounted tank recently. Basically, its gonna be tight fit unless ya loosen up the tank and slide it to the PS side.

Might be a lot easier if ya loosen/slide the tank over then...

Install the new hose to tank and clamp it.

Then install the filler neck to the hose....clamped loosely.

Install the rubber doughnut in the cab....lube the ID of it with soapy water or even WD40 to slide in the filler neck.

Slide the assembly into place, clamp down the tank, move the filler neck in/out a bit and tighten that loose clamp into place.

Fill it up and check for leaks.

I loosened the tank on my 63 and installed the hose and filler tube, clamped them tight and then slid the tube up through the grommet. I used glass cleaner to lube everything.

Thanks, 63burban. will it be easy to tell how far to push the filler neck into the hose before I clamp it or is it a trial-and-error kinda thing?

thx!

You can usually see on the tube where it was, just measure before you install it.
