Interesting auction: 69 fire department pickup

For the record, I have nothing to gain from this and know no one associated with it. Just thought some of you might like to see this one:

That is a very nice very low mile survivor.

I bet it was shiny up until it was taken out of service and they parked it outside.

Re: Interesting auction: 69 fire department pickup

Lot of grime on the engine for a low mile fire truck.. you'd think they'd take better care of it.

Easy now young grasshoppers....the odometer could always be broken.

If I had the cash, I'd put a bid in myself and use this truck as a work truck....be a great candidate for a snowplow business.

You think that truck would be a bear to stop with the weight of the truck and equipment and a 250 gallon water tank that weighs 2500 lbs and no power brakes..

Not to mention 6 200 lb firemen riding on that front bumper, and another 10 in the back lol

Re: Interesting auction: 69 fire department pickup

On a related note, our first family pickup was a '69 GMC swb stepside (2wd) in the orange/red color.

The local fire chief lived down the street from us and liked our truck so well that he ordered a similar truck (4wd, and long wheel base stepper) for the fire department's "brush fire truck".

It may still be in use; I'll have to check the next time I'm back in town.

seems like I always get to the pik-nik when the potato salad's gone! Probably better I didn't see this tho... i would have pulled all the fire equipment off and turned it into my trucks twin.

Re: Interesting auction: 69 fire department pickup

"Includes Racks But No Front Fire Fighting Bumper, Includes Original Front Bumper -Not Shown". No loss there, but it does appear to have protected the grill fairly well. It couldn't get dented if it was 3 ft from everything! I would have to balk at the 9k claim. If it did have that low of miles on the chassis, I would say the engine has a lot more hours from just sitting while running, judging by the grease build up. As for maintenance of volunteer vehicles, IMO it is all over the scale as far a quality of work performed. Remember that it isn't a paid dept so there was the possibility of "brother in law" shade tree mechanic work possible that you wouldn't see on a non volunteer dept truck. The trucks in the small town I grew up in where victims of this. there was a lot of good intentions that went awry.

Re: Interesting auction: 69 fire department pickup

That odometer might have rolled over and is showing 109,000?

Probably not based on over all condition of the interior, but who knows how that truck was used. Probably rode hard over the years.

Just amazing!!!!!!!!
That much money for such a plain and questionable background (as far as maintenance and usage) of a truck.

It's all good-no hills to worry about around there

I'd probably have a hard time convincing myself to be the guy standing on that front bumper with a hose and being driven toward a fire!
