Road draft tube...snapped off!

As posted in the title my road draft tube snapped off! God only knows where it fell off haha, but all that remains now is a 90 degree elbow out of the valve cover pointed at the firewall of the cab. So it still breathes, just not in the best location... I know I could make a PCV system for it, but the bucket has been out of commission for close to 2 weekends now and I just wanna drive the darn thing! So is there another fix besides making another tube myself or making a PCV system? What about something like this? - http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...ilter/_/N-25xh

Will a breather filter do the job? Or would it become oil saturated too quickly and render it useless? *By the way, I wouldn't mind rinsing out the filter occasionally!* I was just wondering if anyone has used this method before. Thanks guys and gals!

I used to have a 283 with that problem and it had a peice of heater hose clamped to the broken part and it ran down beside the bell housing. I drove it around for years like that with no issues.

First off a road draft tube doesn't attach to your valve cover.
Not sure what you have but take a pic and we'll tell you how to fix it.

@Dave thanks for the reply! Heater tubing huh? That sounds like an interesting fix!

@geezer thanks for the reply! But I'm almost 100% positive that it is a crankcase ventilation tube (what I've come to know as a road draft tube as it dumps oil and crankcase pressure to the ground). So I'm not sure if you're not understanding what I'm referring to, or if you've never seen a valve cover vent system, but that's really the only thing I could see it being.

I was just wondering about the filter thing because I think it will help clean up the look of the engine bay!

WEll 65!!
Strangely that's how old I am. 65. I grew up with road draft tubes long before a pcv system came in to use.
A road draft doesn't dump oil and crankcase pressure to the ground. It draws the crankcase fumes out of the motor due to it's design. If it's designed right.
And I've seen lots of pcv systems that worked or didn't work. A breather might make your motor look better but without a working pcv you'll just have all that oil and crap all over your motor.

I'm not claiming to know all the answers by any means and it could very well have been plumbed wrong by the previous owner, but as it stands now that's what it appears to be. As soon as remember my log in for the photo host site I'll post pics haha. Thanks again fellas!

Remembered my log in! Okay, this elbow joint had a 6 foot or so long pipe that hugged the undercarriage of the cab and angled at the ground. What is it?

That there appears strongly to be a home made elbow for a home made road draft tube where the pcv valve used to be.

Prolly time to plumb to full manifold vacuum, at the intake manifold port below the carb on the drivers side and install a new rubber hose, bung rubber and a pcv valve. Should cut down on somma the oil that's all over the toppa that motor.

Your 65 should have a manifold vac port between the carb and the valve cover on the intake manifold that you run your pcv to like Sharps says. THen a breather cap at the front of your valve cover.

I know the port that you are referring to Geezer thanks for all the help. I didn't mean to offend a C10 sage, if I did I'm sorry. I know what I'm doing tomorrow... Thanks again fellas!
