49 Build with 5.3L, Questions!
Was wondering if I could get some help or opinions on what type of fuel tank setups people are using? Also do the exhaust manifolds need to be changed from the truck one's to one's from a car so they clear the frame rails or use headers? Do you have to use a car type oil pan setup to get it from hanging down passed cross member? Thanks for any help and info in advance.

Lots of tank options. I used a 89 jeep wrangler tank because it was for an injected vehicle and you can use a newer in tank pump with a little modifying. The manifolds will almost certainly NOT work. Stock truck manifolds curve outward-right toward the frame. Trailblazer SS and some new camaro manifolds or headers seem to be the choice. Can't help with the oil pan question, I've got a g-body clip.

What model 49 are you working on? I'm looking at a 47 GMC 450 firetruck and had plans for the same thing. Thanks. Jim

Re: 49 Build with 5.3L, Questions!
Just a regular 5 window, guess it's a 3100 not positive I'm all new to this also. I have a guy helping with the fab work, he mounted motor in the truck for me the other day and that's when we noticed the exhaust manifolds won't work and the pan is real low past cross member. I know there's a few tanks you can buy that's supposed to fit but they're pretty pricey, so I was looking for some options that might be a little cheaper. I know it's easier to find tanks to use if you're not using the newer fuel injected motors. So maybe I'll get some good answers here.

The Cadillac CTS-V pan will probably be the correct one for you. As stated above the Trailblazer SS manifolds are usualy the best fit because they hug the block all the way back. As far as tanks go I have used the 88 K5 blazer tank and sending unit with the fuel pump from a 96 Silverado with a 5.7 attached to it. You could probably get a S10 or S10 Blazer tank from a TBI truck if space is a problem. Just use the 96 5.7 pump on the sending unit for the TBI tank you get.
Here is a link to a thread about the CTS-V oil pan. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=565764
