66 In-Cab fuel tank install

I am replacing the in-cab fuel tank on my 66'. Seems pretty straight forward from what I have read. Any tips I should know that might help? Once I get the new tank installed it is just a matter of filling it up and starting the engine and good to go (assuming install was done correctly)? Thanks,

Its a pretty straigth fwd install. Recommend also, new rubber filler neck hose, replace or flush the old steel fuel lines, replace small rubber lines associated with the steel ones. New fuel pump time if the current one is old. Clean new, large fuel filter in line, not the crappy see thru jobbies.

Hook up. Clean gas, say 2 gal initially, check for leaks, start/drive, check for leaks.

Then half tank, start up/drive, check for leaks, go ride!

Then full tank, start up/drive, check for leaks, specially at sender unit and filler neck, have fun!

Sharps40 - Thanks for the comments. Should go smooth as I bought all new parts. If you don't see on the news that fellow blew himself up in Colorado doing truck repairs, all should go well

Don't forget to put thread sealer on the sending unit screw threads or you will get a gas smell from the threads weeping fuel when the tank is full. I had this smell and it went away after I sealed my threads up. good luck.

Just ordered mine up from LMC. Haven't opened the box yet, but I assume it to be of decent quality. My truck stunk like gas and would spill fuel out the filler neck on sharp turns. Figured I'd replace it just be safe.

Ye'll be fine...smoke the cigars after yer done and yer sure its sealed up tight. A new fuel filler hose, new tank, good sender gasket and sealed screws and new rubber on the supply lines and all is well for another 20 years. When they are sealed right ya get a tiny bit of smell off the cap, specially full but for the most part, nothing objectionable and ya don't loose the space for yer spare tire.
