Chassis numbers
I'm trying to find the numbers on a 1958 chevy 3100 they stamped into the frame that indicates which bed. What I'm hoping to find is 3134 which is fleet bed. Thanks

I'm not sure that there are numbers stamped in the frames on Task Force trucks but the Task Force guys will chime in on it when they see the thread.

It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around. |

one is stamped on top of frame rail just in front of steering box. if someone ground it off they is a second on top of the frame under the driver s step. to read it you need to make a rubbing, it was intended to be hard to get to so it could not be removed easily.

I think that all you are going to find is the 3A which stands for 3100 series and short wheelbase. It really doesn't matter anyhow unless you are shooting for a 100 point restoration to show in national truck shows in quest of the big awards. Run what ever bed you want and so be it.

The vin may look like 3A58 X XXXXXX
the body id is in the last set of XXXXX numbers but unfortunately GM no longer has build sheets past early 70's. 3A pickup 58 year X build factory XXXXXX serial number 3A trucks could have been any of the below with a 31 prefix 02 Chassis-Cowl or School Bus 03 Chassis Cab 04 Stepside Pickup 05 Panel 06 Carryall ( Panel Rear doors) 09 Stake 12 Chassis-Cowl-Windsheild - like the Good Humor Man Truck 16 Carryall (Endgate) 34 Fleetside Pickup 42 Forward Control Chassis 45 Forward Control Step Van 53 Chassis-Cab - 4WD 54 Stepside Pickup - 4WD 55 Panel - 4WD 56 Carryall (Doors) - 4WD 66 Carryall ( Endgate) - 4WD 70 Sedan Delivery Panel 80 El Camino 84 Fleetside Pickup - 4WD Some would be obvious to figure out but Pickups , Fleet or step, can only be determined by the last numbers in the serial number or a build sheet Last edited by dwcsr; 08-25-2013 at 09:40 PM. |
