Are 3/4 and 1 ton A-arms the same?
I have a 69 one ton car hauler that was hit by a twenty something blonde who can't drive. She hit me right between the front edge of my tire and fender, now my wheel looks canted in at the top.
I'm thinking the upper A arm or ball joint is bent. I have a 3/4 ton parts truck and was wondering if the upper A arms are interchangeable with my 1 ton. Anybody know for sure? |

Well, I took both upper and lower control arms out. I've had this truck for almost 12 years and had no idea that a previous owner had upgraded the control arms, spindles, and brakes to mid 80's stuff. My parts truck was a 71, so I found a set from an 80 model GMC 1 ton.
The lower's shafts/bushing set up in the replacement arms feel pretty loose, so I was going to replace them. Now, my question is how do you know where to position the shafts? Do you screw them to the middle? Both of my old ones appear to screwed almost all the way to the front. Does an alignment shop need to set the correct position when I'm done? This is the first time I've had a one ton apart like this, a lot different than the C10's. |
