Lowering my 92

I have been toying with the idea of dropping my 92 Chevy X Cab Stepside for a while now. I don't want to Slam it, but just a couple inches on all 4 corners.
How would you recommend doing it??

In the past I have lowered many 55-59 GM Trucks both with Straight axles and Subframes, and 10 years ago I dropped my old shop truck, a 78 Chevy. I know How I did those, but was wondering if there was a "Better" way to do my 92.

Re: Lowering my 92

2/4 is a good start. Spindles up front and shackles and hangers in back. But with extended cab truck you also need a carrier bearing spacer for pinion angle. Look at Belltech kit from summit it comes with the spacer for extended cab applications

Re: Lowering my 92

I've done a couple over the years by cutting a turn out of the front coils and pulling 2 leaves out of the rear pack. While this method is free, you lose a great deal of load capacity, and the ride is a bit stiff.
My current truck,a 94 C1500 extended cab,has the above suggested hanger/shackle kit and front spindles, and while the parts aren't dirt cheap, its nice to have a low pickup with factory ride and load hauling capabilities.

x 2....DJM spindles also don't push the wheels outward like Belltech, so keep that in mind....you can check around for prices, but I would recommend checking with Tony (NORCAL SS). He's a member here, but I didn't see a recent post from him when searching. Maybe shoot him a PM, or you can email him at NORCALSS06@aol.com....I've asked him tons of questions in the past, & he's always quick to respond.

Re: Lowering my 92

Well I picked up a set of BellTech Shackles today for $20. I will start with the back. At least level the truck for now.

Re: Lowering my 92

The shackles alone leveled mine nicely, if you do the front hangers too I would be concerned about bottoming out without doing a C-notch if you carry anything. With the shackles you won't even notice any difference in the ride quality or carrying cap.

Re: Lowering my 92

Toonman this is my truck with stock shackles

And with the 2" drop shackles

The truck is going a little downhill in both pics but you should be able to see the difference between the tire and wheel opening.
