I have a 1972 c10 with 350 and original carb. When started everyday it starts fine. If it sets more than @ 2 days I have to pump the accelerator 20-30 times to get it to start. Thetruck had set since 1984 befor I restored it. Had the card rebuilt in the process. Once started it runs great. Put a new mechanical fuel pump on during the restoration. Getting frustrated as it sets for weeks at a time.
Ideas?

If it is a Qjet.... Then the secondary metering wells are leaking. Very common problem. several kit manufacturers make a (semi) fix for this it is new aluminum plugs that replace the old ones and a sponge to ???help sop up the gas???? Use JB weld thinly over all 4 metering well plugs. That should fix it.

What is happening is over a several days the float bowl drains into the intake. Your cranking and cranking is refilling the float bowl.

X2 also be sure you have gas at the carb. I recently had a fuel pump go bad after sitting for about a year. It only ran for about 1 hr total before that. I have heard that the thanol in gas ruins the diaphragm. (?)

I had that problem until i replaced my fuel pump too, starts a lot easier now. I also rebuilt my Edelbrock carb and found i had some linkage adjustments that were out.also.

Make sure your choke is closing completely for those cold, delayed-for-days starts.

Post #2 and 3 have your answer for you, its those little plugs. They are leaking and need to be replaced. The gas in your carb is leaking out there and dripping into your intake manifold. You have then got to crank that motor until the carb fills back up with gas enough to feed the motor. Easy fix.

Apply's to the Rochester 2bbl's as well...No biggie. A normally aspirated (carbureted) motor with mechanical fuel pumps will do that after sitting a couple of days...
