Need help in shipping an engine
Considering buying a motor on the west coast and would have to get it shipped to the east coast. Can anyone offer any tips/suggestions/recommendations on shipping this? Also would anyone have an idea as to the cost?
Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

As I recall, a fully dressed big block weigh in somewhere between 650 and 700 pounds. A small block, on the other hand, dials in between 550 and 600 pounds.

I just shipped a 327 longblock from Texas to Indiana via truck freight. Found that ABF Trucklines had the best rate. My engine crated w/no fluids it was a class 85. It cost me $181.00 to ship it. The cost is not as bad as you would think for something this heavy. My engine weighed 440 lbs. that is a good weight for a SBC without intake, carb, water pump or starter. Going from coast to coast would be more but this will give you some idea of what it might cost. I saved $40.00 by taking it to the shipper and having my customer pick it up at the shipper's dock.
Hope this helps. Ernie
