Re: WTB Long Water Pump Power Steering Bracket

Bob,... all 67-72 SBC equipped trucks came with a "short" water pump.

You might have better luck looking in the 73-87 classifieds area.
They all came with long water pumps.

Re: WTB Long Water Pump Power Steering Bracket

Bob,

If you have the "short" style p/s pump brackets they will work with a long water pump set up. I am attaching a photo of my truck which is set up that way. I am going to change it to a short water pump in the future but the p/s pump brackets are the same.

Actually, this is not a "long" vs "short" water pump problem, it is a pre 72 / post 73 problem. GM did not start the long water pump on pick ups until 73. The 73 and up engines had all stamped steel brackets for the p/s as where the 72 and under had one stamped steel and one cast bracket.

I hope this helps clear up some issues.

Good to know. Based off the photo of my truck, is the p/s brackets correct for a passenger car with a long water pump? I am trying to get educated on this too. I don't recall ever seeing a long water pump engine with this style of p/s brackets.

Not trying to hijack here just want to make sure Bob gets what he needs.

Re: WTB Long Water Pump Power Steering Bracket

Keith, Thank you for the suggestion. I posted a WTB in the 73-87 section also.

The quest for long water pump power steering began when my son attempted to mount his existing power steering pump above a porterbuilt drop member and the pump hung down too low and contacts the rack and cannot be mounted.

Upon further research it was determined that he needed the correct power steering brackets even though he was using the power steering brackets that came with the motor. Using the long water pump power steering brackets will move the pump up higher and allow it to be used with the porterbuilt drop member.

Pictures can be seen here.

Thanks to all who are trying to help get this figured out.
