Vent Window Rebuild

Couple of quick questions. Got my vent window back today from powdercoat and am reassembling.

1. The gasket kit I got from LMC; the flat piece has indention's on one side, but they aren't holes, meaning they don't go all the way through. Do I just drill holes for them so I can rivet them? (Side note: I am LOATHING rivets.)

2. The chrome latch/lever; it's a little (really) loose on its knob. Any way to remove some of the slack?

Take a look at my vent window rebuild in the Official John Lee Jr thread.

Also, before you install the LMC Rubber and update on mine, as I used LMC Rubber.

About two months old and the LMC rubber I installed has begun to deteriorate, tear and crumble....I'd recommend you send the LMC kit back and shop for some other rubber kit.

Ugh! That sucks to hear. I've already had this kit for a few months now. I'll take a look at your thread. Thanks for the reply Sharps40.

So on the flat piece, did yours have holes through both sides? Or did you drill the hole all the way through?

I drilled em thru....1/8 bit as I recall....glued em down too. The lmc flat bits are too thick...just now getting to where I can open/close the vent windows with only one hand....grease/soap has helped the break in. But, I use the DS vent daily and the rubber is starting to break down/shread spaghetti strips. Next time, I'll simply buy an entire fitted vent window assembly, glass and runner and rubber and all and drop it in...and if it fuggles up in a month, yank it, drop in on of these and get a new one sent to me under warrenty.

I'm findin, years later and comein back to cars again, that the after market rubber products basically still (even 20 years later) SUCK!

Ok, I'll do that. Do you think there's is anything that could help prolong it's life? Help the rubber last longer?

Nope I don't think you can fix cheep rubber products...I think you gotta check with folks on here for their experience....I hear many say that Steele rubber products are good.

I'd expected to see the rubber break down in several years not several weeks. I won't be getting any more from LMC. But then I won't buy Windshield Wipers from Classic either.

Its hard to figure what to buy and sometimes ya get hosed on your choice. I'm hopein that my vent rubbers hold up for a couple years and in the meantime I'll do some research. Its a pain in the ass job and I ain't lookin forward to doin it again......

Anybody else here got some experience with good quality long lasting vent window rubber?

Yep, I read the vent window rebuilds in there before I did mine. But I don't recall any discussion of the longevity and quality of the rubber in there anywhere....just the install bits. Nice but doesn't help with determining from other users which rubber products fit best and last longest. Had I know, I'd prolly shopped other than LMC on my vent rubber.
