Someone will correct me if I'm wron. But.
I dont think they were that rare. It's just that most people at some point pulled out the few that were out there to replace them with cassett decks etc. This is before they were hard to find.
Now they are harder to find. I'm guessing there were probably 10 AM to 1 AM/FM ratio?
Sound close guys?
A good perfect working AM/FM radio with ZERO pitting / rust on the face, and perfect pushbuttons will cost an avg of $300 +/- $100

Darren is right on with prices as I've watched over the past few years.
Got to be real careful as the Van radio looks virtually identical to the truck unit. Ront lense is different BUT the front lense can be easily swapped and aftermarket truck lenses are available. Vans had a slots in the top for mounting and have the antenna plug in hole in the bottom. A van am-fm should be in the $100. range verses the $200. range for the truck unit.

I would think the ratio would be more like 100 to 1....most of these trucks built were work trucks with few options. I have only seen AM/FM's on 71/72s in person...never on the older trucks....though I'm sure they exist.

van radios also have the cooling fins on the back instead of off to the passengers side
