Re: Parking lamp failures, is LED the fix?

Well I ran the ground from the socket all the way back to the headlight relay ground. That is not to say there may be a problem in the socket itself for the ground. But when I looked at the inside of the socket the hot side contacts are on the bottom and the ground is a tab that flexes over to contact the body of the bulb from the side. Both lights are tied to the same ground but only the passenger side lamp has this issue. I checked voltage at the firewall plug but the parking lamps both get run off of the same line. This weekend I am going to pull the lights again and swap the sides just to check the sockets and go from there I guess. the problem was there before the rewire so nothing has changed in that respect. hhmm

That's a damn fine lookin wire loom and I love the socket install....the screws and wire tab are a great idea. Luck with the faulty socket lighting both filiments. Yer 98% there, once done its gonna be factory reliable for the long haul and damn fine looking to boot!

Thanks man to be honest a friend turned me on to the Harbor Freight special wire loom its cheap and when you do decide to take it apart you aren't covered in electrical tape residue. I may still convert to LED one day but not until I am ready for a new whole truck wiring harness. Until then I will make this reliable and at least get the things I touch dialed in. but the way things are going I will end up one by one replacing every single wire and at some point I will just buy a new updated fuse panel. but thanks on the kudos

Re: Parking lamp failures, is LED the fix?

Well I worked on the parking lamps during the daylight this time and found that on the questionable socket it wasn't both filaments that were being lit but just the turn filament. It turns out that the socket was wired incorrectly internally. I swapped the connectors and relabled them and its all good now.
