Hello

I am having a hard time getting the column to hold in position while I bolt it back in place.

I am trying to line up the slot in the steering jacket (the painted part) with the tab under the dash. Seems like there should be a hook there but all I see on mine is what looks like an alignment tab.

Looks like the column has been in and out at least a couple of times so if there was a tab there originally it's not there now.

The whole column moved around so I was trying to tighten things up while I decide which way to go for a replacement later. But if there's supposed to be a tab that slides into the slot, it won't be fixed and I'll be dealing with this with whatever column I go with.

Here's a bump for you.. I've had mine off a few times but it's been so long I can't remember if there was a tab on the column. I know there wasn't a hook on mine, though -and the clamp holds it fairly tight to keep it from moving.

There is just a tab not a hook. Its kind of a pita to get the bolts started but once they are started leave them loose, move the column until the tab and slot line up, then tighten them down.

Read this post and scroll down to view the pics. It's a different year column but might help you. He used a bolt and nut to simulate a tab.
