Went to the tire shop today. Lookin (Just Looking) at wheels and tires for the 72 3/4 Ton 4X4. It's currently stock height. No lift
The guy at Les Schwab (Tire store) said that if I put 33"x12.5" tires on 10"wide wheels, that they will rub on the sheetmetal when I turn. Does this sound right?
He said that 33"x12.5" tires would fit W/ 8" wheels without a lift kit, but if I wanted to go with the 10" wide wheels I would need a 4" lift. Does this sound right?
Do any of you 4x4 guys run 33"x12.5" tires on 10" wide wheels without a lift kit? I'm not sure If I want a 4" lift or not.

ive got 33/12.5/16 on 16x7 whitespokes on my truck, no rub whatsoever, not even close, but it does have a 2.5 lift in the front. honestly i wouldnt think twice about running it with no lift

Well the guy said that 8" wheels would be ok without a lift.
Just not 10"wheels. I really really want 10" wide wheels.
Thats my dillema. I want the 33"x12.5" tires and 10" wide wheels, and no lift if possible. If I must get a 4" lift I will.

honestly i dont really see there being much of a problem, but you could always put them on then if they rub your not out anything, just get the lift

I'm running 33-15.50's on 10" rims with a 2 " add a leaf all the way around, still rubs occasionaly, when turning like when one wheels is in a gutter and the other still on pavement.

I ran 33 14.5 Mickeys on the Jimmy with no lift on 15x8" rims. They had 3.5" backspacing. They actually rubbed on the leaf springs and not the sheet metal. You MIGHT be able to run 10" rims with 4" of BS. That is what I am planning for the Jimmy when I convert to 8 lug. Otherwises, I would run 16x8 with 3.5" BS. What you will find is the 4" BS is common and the 3.5" more difficult. Try and find somebody who lives in your area who would let you try out their wheel and tire combo. Throw in a free rotation for them!

I have 33-12.5/15 TSLs (about 34" tall) on 15x10 w/ a 2" lift from Tuff country no rubbing. Some pics in the link in my signature.

I'm running 33's on 8" ralleys no problem, but 10's I'm not sure about, the only solution I can think of is try it, you might not be able to turn really sharp is all.

no offense intended but there is quite a diffence in the looks of a truck with 33's as opposed to the 31's. My old "73 I used 36's and switched later to 33's.

Alright let's kick it up a notch and see what everybody thinks about 37s on H2 wheels under a 68 suburban. How much lift?

imdarren,i got 33-12.5 15 on my blazer i`m running 8inch rims and they are close to rubbing sometimes but haven`t yet,i know 10 would rub...
i have no lift just stock spring.
i would belive the tire guy sounds like he knows wat he is talking about.

Yup, tire guy's probably right. Also, FWIW i would not run 12.50s on 8" rim; I know it is done but that size tire is really designed for a 10" rim. 33-12.50s on 10" rims and no lift will work if you notch the leading edges of the inner fenders. Hardly noticable, but not many folks want to take a hacksaw to vintage tin.

I ran 37x12.50x16.5 hummer tires on my plow truck for a couple of weeks, just for laughs. They did fit, but they auto-clearanced on the rusty front fenders, too. And I couldn't go over bumps, either.
Now they're on my brother's Corvair...

Board Member IGOR has 37's on 17" M/T wheels. Not hummers, but it looks nice. I'm not sure how much lift he has but I think it was in the 8-10" range.

I have 33x12.50x16.5 tires on 9.75 inch wide rims and yes they do rub occasionally on the fronts of each fender but I plan on doing at least a 2" lift in the near future

Some pics in the link in my signature. __________________ 1970 K25, 8' stepside bed 350/465/205 44 up front, 60 in the rear 4.10s rolling on 33" Dunlop MTs 1986 K5, 350/465/208 Dana 60/14 bolt from a cucv 36" Super Swampers TSL/SX 1983 K20 w/ CUCV axles, 350/700R4/208 sitting on 37" Goodyears 1986 M1031 6.2 diesel, TH400/NP205 locker in the rear and a LS in the front, all stock for now..... 1986 K30, 350/400/205 dana 60 and 14 bolt. I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
