GMC /Chevy Cab Swap

ok, I bought a project to finish. I love 54 Chevy/ GMC pickups. the one I bought has the chassis done. The cab is a 1954 GMC and the engine is a GMC 248 ,the pickup is a 1954 Chevy. The cab is sanded and ready to paint. The front fenders
the inner fender panels and radiator horse collar is all 54 chevy. The engine uses the same mounts as the 235 .The truck runs and fenders bolted on with just bolt during transportation. My question is has anybody on this forum used a Gmc cab in place of the Chevy 1954 year models. I looks like the same cab except the dash. Any good information would be appreciated.

Re: GMC /Chevy Cab Swap

Cabs are the same but as mentioned, front ends are different. Mounts, rad support, rad , fenders, hood etc.

Re: GMC /Chevy Cab Swap

On the cab I think you can just pull the GMC dash trim out (speaker grill and gauges and swap in the Chevrolet pieces.

The frames are pretty much the same except the front crossmember and core support are completely different. I think you have figured that out though. I'm not sure that you can use the panel that the Chevrolet hood latch fastens to with the GMC core support/horse collar though.

On the nose the fenders are also a lot different where they fit around the grill.

This is a 54 GMC left front fender. you can see that it is square cut at the top corner like the 47/53 Chevys and GMC trucks but has the recess stamped in it for the 54 park light.

Here is the 54 Chevrolet fender I sent to a kid in Phoenix.

Re: GMC /Chevy Cab Swap

The dash boards are completely different and the trim would not swap. GMC's had a smooth contoured type car looking dash.
