Need a Air Filter Gasket

Hey guys...I need to replace the air filter mounting gasket on my 72 C10...online, they are about $1.50...THEN the various online stores want to charge $10 to ship the gasket. Anyone have suggestions on where to get this part without the high shipping?...would the local Autozone, Advance, etc. carry this gasket? Anyone got one they will sell and mail to me?

Thanks for the consideration..

Greg

Part of the problem is that the level of incompetence in parts stores is so astoundingly high. I have walked in with the part # in my hand and watched them fumble for 15 minutes and still not be able to find what I asked for.

One of the local stores couldn't find a listing for AC Delco R43 spark plugs because his computer doesn't go back that far. Refused to just go get the plugs of the shelf without looking up the "correct" part in the computer. I could see the box of plugs over his shoulder on the shelf.

I think we've all had to deal with this situation one time or another. An Autozone opened in my neighborhood a few months ago. Out of curiosity more than anything, I stopped in to look around. I needed something small - like a gasket or a thermostat - and had to deal with miss computer whiz. After several minutes I finally got what I needed, but haven't been back.

Just up the street and around the corner there is an Advance Auto and O'Reilly's staffed with guys that generally get it. There is also a couple of NAPA stores and a CarQuest, but the price is generally higher for the same parts, and in the case of the NAPA, service wasn't much better than the Autozone experience.

I generally try Advance Auto first because you can order online and pick up in the store 15 or 20 minutes later. That way if you know what you need, you're good to go. In addition, there are several promo codes out there (Google Advance Auto promo codes) that still work and can save you a bucket of cash.

The saving grace for the CarQuest, other than it's closest to my house, is that it's attached to a regional distribution warehouse. So if they don't have something in stock, they have a guy who will hop on a bicycle, run over and get the part out of the warehouse - even on Sunday!

OK. Rant over.

Re: Need a Air Filter Gasket

If you have knowledge of what you want and can be persistent you can get it at an autoparts store. I have already delt with people that didnt know what a th 350 was when I was trying to get a pan gasket and filter. The days of the guy who knew everything behind the counter is over, you will eather have some college kid or you would have some guy trying to sell the wrong part but insist its right. I delt with almost all differnet flavors. Go in with knowledge and you will get whT you need
