did this bumper come on a 47-59?

This bumper was bolted to the rear of my 65 I bought but I couldve sworn I saw an earlier truck with one like it. Any clues?

Re: did this bumper come on a 47-59?

Possibly a dealer installed aftermarket bumper.

They would ship the trucks bare bones without a rear bumper and the dealer would sell you one of those when you bought the truck or install it before he put it on the lot as an upgrade extra profit item.

From what I've seen the bumpers were somewhat regional in that the dealers got them from manufactures local to them. The bumpers from Texas had one look and often had the dealer name and town stamped in them while those from the area I live in were of different styles and one style wrapped around and bolted to the rear fenders.

That one looks pretty straight and I think you can clean it up and paint it and it will look pretty good. The Width of the brackets will tell if it fit and AD half ton, three quarter ton or a Task Force truck.

Most of the dealer bumpers ive seen from the 50's went down the bedsides and butted up to the back of the rear fenders. But who knows, there were likely several tpyes of these on the market back then.
