Timing a 98 K1500 5.7l. Need help.

Do you have to use a scan tool to set the timing on this year. If so can a snap-on scanner do it? I thought maybe this year was one were you could find the timing wire and dis-connect it but am told it is for the 95 and older years. Which way do I have to go on this.

Yes Snap-on scanners can do it but it's a ***** to find the menu sometimes. My solus Pro was a pain. Here's the procedure.

Speedy, so then it does have to be done by a scanner right? No wire to unplug?

correct, you HAVE to set camshaft retard, or cmp, cmp retard depending on the scanner, to set the timing on the 96-02 5.7 vortecs, it has to be at 0* +/- 2* at over 1000rpm. and the distributor has to be put in on #1 tdc compression stroke, then ran and monitored with the scanner over 1000rpm and then set.
