Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

I found a pair of Florida 70 Plates for me and my buddy Steve to run on our 70 trucks... his is 14W15646 and mine is 14W15647... we still need to get them registered, but they are never issued plates and are in perfect Condition.

A few weeks ago I ran across the Indiana Special Machinery Plates and thought they were really awesome so I bought the 3 sequential pates for $12... for that price I could not pass them up even if I just hang them on the wall in the shop.

Montana truck set for the K20 once the NM tags expire...I'm told that for vehicles ten years old or more it's just a one time registration fee, no annual renewal required!

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Here's the plate on my truck, I decided to go with a farm plate on this truck for a change of pace. Finding YOM truck plates is tough enough here, you never see farm plates. I bought it as a single at a swapmeet for $15. I don't run front plates anyway.

I love it! Are you going to run the '67 bumperless, or is it temporary?

It's got a sport bumper on it now, that pic is from this last fall. Colorado has a deal where if your collector vehicle already has plates and registration you fill out a one page form and send a copy of proof of insurance and registration with the plate number off the YOM plate and they send you a secondary registration card for that plate for occasional use...for free!

Alabama has something similiar where you can register a YOM tag for $12 for life. We do have to run a reflective "V" for Vintage decal. Some people make a separate plate bezel to the side or below the plate, but it looks better just being on the plate, IMO. Here's mine on my '68.

I have no idea why old plates smell like BO, but it's terrible!

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Here are my 2 BO scented tags I picked up for the truck. Not NOS like the tag for my Mustang unfortunately. Not sure which one I want to use yet but both look like they need some restoration work. Leaning towards the "Oklahoma is OK" non com'l tag.

Yeah, what's up with the "BO" smell. I purchased two pair of vintage plates for possible use on my truck and they both showed up smelling like BO. I've also run across several plates from the 60's and 70's at antique shops and they have that same smell. Maybe it the shellac or clear coat they used back then.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

THANKS ALOT GUYS!

So I go pull out all my old plates, and I'm smelling them. My wife sees me and asks the question: "What are you doing?" In the midst of my focused determination I blurt it out: "Smelling them to see if they smell like BO!".

Now she thinks I'm more retarded than she already did!

For the record, none of my plates smell like BO...

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

In Indiana you can run YOM plates but you have to have a current registered Antique plate inside the vehicle. Plus the BMV has to approve the plate.

I'm planning on running a '67 Vanderburgh County (where I live) plate once I find a decent one.

I currently have a '67 Kentucky plate on the front of my truck. It was given to me by a friend and is the county I grew up in.

I couldn't find a farm tag or one for Bath County, so went with this one. We don't run front plates, real one is on the back and says Historic Vehicle.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

I was at an antique store one time looking at this one display area that was full of old plates when this lady walked over, looked around, sniffed, gave me the hairy eye and walked away. My first thought was, "This lady thinks I'm the one that smells this bad!"

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

I have a few of my own to add. Since I already have DMV registered YOM plates on my '70, I took some scans of a couple of my plates and superimposed them. I will show my actual YOM plates in a future post (and I can guarantee you that you will never see another pair like them).

If I ever... EVER get a 1987 vintage vehicle I have the PERFECT pair of YOM plates for shows... a pair of the coveted "ASS" plates!

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

A couple more pairs I have... the CT ones pictured here are the ones I'm really using on the truck. They are registered at the DMV as YOM combination plates while I keep "Early American" plates in the glovebox as per CT law. What I like about this is the fact that nobody on the Internet can trace out the plates without having direct access to the DMV's internal documents. If you ever see the dark blue plates without starting in "C" or "CA" they are passenger plates and were never issued to pickup trucks. I'm willing to bet you never see another truck out there running the correct YOM plates in CT. The CA plates here are not correct for trucks (as most of you already know) but I keep a pair just in case I ever register an old car in California

Correct for this one owner 72 GMC K1500.

Ten year old vehicles in MT can be permanently registered for a nominal one time fee - no more annual registration fees after that!

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread

Missouri is easy as pie to register YOM. There is also a guy who goes by "License Plate Larry" and he can get anything you want. I have them on my '71. Had them on my '87 (first and only according to the DMV that year). Dad has NOS tags he bought never used with paint still in the holes on his '62 Nova and '63 Nova wagon. I also have a '50 tag complete with metal year ready to go for when that project is done. Interesting note on the '50 tag, the green year piece is for passenger cars, the truck one is white/orange and last one I saw was going for $200.
