Sealing polished aluminum wheels

Anyone ever use Wheel Shield Protectant on their aluminum wheels? Is it any good? I saw a plug for it on Gearz.

I have never used it but then i don't trust anything i see on TV I just keep a good coat of wax on mine

I have been using a product called "Power Seal" from Wizards. It works much like a wax, but the material keeps dirat and water from settling in the pores of the wheels. I would imagine that it is much like the stuff that they advertised on the TV.

russj67 are your wheels polished aluminum or chrome? They look chrome in your pics. If they are polished then you have sold me on some polished Coy's. Oh and you truck is beautilful

I was really on the fence about the polished coys because i have read some bad stories about them on here but yours look excellent, like i said i thought they were chrome. I just might have to get me a set of them for my project. What kind of shape were they in when you got them.

I've used Nylac from Eastwood on some Pontiac snowflakes. It's a polyester clear coat. It worked really well. Is made for aluminum mags.

I bought them new, but went over them with Mother's Aluminum Polish and that really brought out the shine. I'm looking into some of the suggestions that came up here. I was hoping to find something that is available locally, but am not seeing many choices. I may try the Wizards Power Seal.

Is Zoops a polish or a sealer? I'm all for a good polish, but I hesitate to seal my wheels because when it comes time to clean them again I don't know what I'm going to get into cleaning off the old sealer to get to the wheel surface.
Any opinions?

Zoops is a sealer, much like a clear coat,that's why I won't use it. I use "Wheel Wax" on mine.

I have a Zoops kit in my pile of goodies, but have not yet used it. I still support a good polishing with Mother's Aluminum polish (to remove the large amount of dirt and scratches in the metal), followed by using Mother's Billet polish (to create a mirror finish) and then wipe down with a soft cloth and using a detail spray to remove the residue. I then use the Wizard's Metal treament that keeps the dirt and water from introducing themselves into the pores of the metal. this stuff is NOT a hard coat sealer and the cleaning of the wheels is really easy the next time. I have been doing it for a long time, now and I even run Billet Specialties poished wheels on my Daily Driver truck. I drive my stuff, and there is no such thing as trailering in my world.

Attached is one of my DD's Billet wheels on my show truck---I was trying it out for fitment, so that I could purchase some more for it. The wheel in the picture is polished as stated above and sealed with the Wizards.

I was @ the Gatornationals one year & on the midway I saw a distributor doing a demo (on everything from oxidized chrome, diamond plate, aluminum, brass, stainless to the nasty chainlink fence rail @ the track) of this 2 bottle product called Master Formula Metal Gloss which is the cleaner & Master Formula Sealer Gloss which is the sealer. It doesnt take alot of elbow grease to get it to work thats what I like about it. I use it on everything from emblems to bumpers & rims. I can go about 7 months between aluminum rim details now. It rains ALOT here on the gulf coast but the rims still look great. I pick up 2 bottles every yaer at the track since they have Gator nats discounts there. Bumping this back up from the dead, lol....Just wondering if there are any other opinions/suggestions out there? I'm having some aggravating oxidation issues with the Super Finish lip on my BOSS 338 wheels....I either need to find something to seal them once polished, or I'm gonna look into having a clear powder coat done.

I have noticed that BOSS sells its own wheel protectant on their website. However, it's $20 a bottle not including shipping. Anybody tried it?

I have purchased but have not used the ZOOPS sealant kit. It is mixed with a liquid and then applied after a polishing. What I do use, is the metal sealant that Wizard Products sells. I have used that for several years without any issue. By saying that, I had Billet Specialty polished rims on my daily driver, which was seeing a lot of miles during the months without snow. I admit for months with really bad weather and salt on the highways, I ran an old set of wheels to ensure that my billets stayed cleaner. My son now has the Billet Specialty wheels on his truck and I still have a set on my show truck. I clean the wheels once a year and apply the sealant. I also do all of my aluminum parts on my engine and in my truck cab with it.

As for spending $20.00 for a sealant, this stuff is around $12.00, but if it works the price is no issue.

Yeah, I saw your previous posts about it & decided to look up their website before bumping the thread. Looks like I might have to try it out. And I agree with the price, but I don't wanna spend $20+ on the BOSS stuff (or anything else) & it not work. Considering they make the wheels I have, you'd think the formula would be ideal for what I need. But if the Wizards stuff works well for $12, you can't beat that!

The Wizards sealant goes on like a wax, and they recommend that you let it set for 12 to 24 hours to cure into the metal. Keep in mind it will not stop everything from affecting the aluminum, but as I stated I put it on my Billet
Specialties that I ran all of the time on my daily driver.

Well, I had some oxidation & light scratches that I couldn't remove. I tried Mother's Mag & Aluminum with no luck, as well as Meguiar's All-Metal with the DynaCone. I did some research & ended up buying Meguiar's Heavy Cut metal polish, along with their Finishing Cut metal polish. Seeing some results of aluminum polishing on Meguiar's forum, I thought that would do the trick. Wrong! So, I was hesitant to make the leap but jumped into wet sanding them. After doing this, I was able to use the Meguiar's Heavy Cut & Finishing polish to get them to an almost new, mirror-like shine. I did this on the front two before heading out on a road-trip over Labor Day. We used my Tahoe during the trip to my In-laws place. They have a gravel driveway that washes out. I had to drive through a mud puddle. Since it was late at night, I didn't take time to wash off the wheels. I later noticed that it had stained the aluminum once again. Now I'll have to re-polish them. So I definitely need something to seal them as best as possible. This is a daily-driver as well.

Here's a before/after pic when using the Mother's to remove the heaviest oxidation. It looks pretty decent in the pic, however there was still oxidation & light scratches on the polished side that I could not get removed no matter what (as mentioned above).

I purchased some small 3" razor buffs that go onto a tapered mandrel in a die grinder. Along with them and some polishing compound from the local truck stop or Eastwood supply, I keep the scratches in my rims cleaned off. I then hand polish with Mothers billet polsih and seal with the Wizards. Easy work and no pain involved.
