Frames interchangeable?

Hi guys, have a 69 1/2 T LWB fleet side, coil spring, unfortunately the frame is damaged (rusted through). I have access to a 72 3/4T LWB frame, doing my homework and checking to make sure that I will not have too many surprises when I go to make the switch. I am assuming the trailing arms are the same, will the front crossmember bolt on? Will appreciate any other suggestions re problems I might run into.. Thanks

Re: Frames interchangeable?

Other than a lot of work removing your 1/2 ton stuff to the new frame you should be fine. More than likely you will be wanting to replace your brake lines as they will be aged and it just makes sense since your doing all the work. Consider pressure washing your new frame after using some cheap cans of oven cleaner a few hours before you start. Good luck.

Re: Frames interchangeable?

I think it was mentioned somewhere that 3/4 ton frames were thicker (modulus) and had a taller profile. Someone who knows more will hopefully chime in.

Re: Frames interchangeable?

Thanks for the replies. I plan on pressure washing the 3/4T frame and then using a wire wheel before painting, my major concern will be whether or not the front end (crossmember) will swap over, dont have the frames side by side and have not measured as of yet, I was hoping someone has done this and would be able to advise as to whether the frames are interchangable. I hope to upgrade as I rebuild, 4 wheel discs etc..... appreciate any advice...

Re: Frames interchangeable?

Yes the front crossmembers will interchange. So you want to use the 3/4 ton frame while retaining your original 1/2 ton suspension?

Re: Frames interchangeable?

Yeah, I would want to take everything from the 1/2T frame on to the 3/4T frame, springs, front crossmember etc
