Question about sway bars

I have seen several sway bars here for sale and have tried to buy some but I wasn't quick enough. So yesterday I'm walking around in my local pull a part and low and behold I find a 70 c10 with a sway bar. I got the bar but the brackets that attach to the frame are riveted so I had to leave them. It got me thinking, the bars I've seen here for sale, I don't remember seeing the frame brackets included so what are these guys who buy the bar doing for brackets?

Where can I get these brackets??? I may have to go back to the yard with power tools and drill the rivets.

Re: Question about sway bars

early classic enterprises has them too. your bar will either be 1 1/16" or 1 1/4". measure the diameter and order accordingly. ece also has the bushing mounts for a lowered truck....

Re: Question about sway bars

I bought a used sway bar off the board and it came with all of the brackets.

It looks like the LMC brackets are for a lowered truck, so they're shorter than the stock height. I don't know if using lowered brackets would make any difference on a stock height truck.

Re: Question about sway bars

You can get frame brackets for either thru CPP.

Re: Question about sway bars

I used a battery powered hack saw to cut the heads off the rivets, and pound them out with a hammer. About all you can do in the junk yard.

Re: Question about sway bars

I'd recommend getting new brackets, the ones for lowered trucks, with the polyurathane bushing. I've heard people on here say the poly bushing squeak but I have had my 1 1/4" bar with the lowered brackest and poly bushing since 2005 and have never heard a squeak. I used the lube that came with the ECE brackets for lowered trucks. You will love the difference in the handling of your truck once you get the sway bar installed. My truck is not lowered but I installed the lowering brackest because I like the fact that you can't see the sway bar unless you are on your hands and knees looking up under the truck.

Re: Question about sway bars

Everything you need to know. I wrote it ten years ago so some of the prices are a little low nowadays, but the pictures, procedures, and part numbers are still good.
