A/C expansion valve ?

What's the difference between the "replacement style" and the "original w/ straight solid sensor"? I think I need to replace my A/C expansion valve and don't know which one to purchase.

Re: A/C expansion valve ?

The difference is basically weight (the original is a little heavier) and the length of the coil with temp sensor on the end.

The reproductions have much more wire coil to them, so you have to wrap them a few more times around the evaporator tube. Other than that, they function the same and there is no surprises when installing one.

You will want to pick up some sticky tar (get it off Ebay pretty cheap) to cover/hold the coil/temp in place. It's really a straight forward swap out and direct fit.

AC Delco part number: 155488

Four Seasons part number: 38652

Both available on rockauto.com for our trucks.

On Ebay, do a search for: tacky tape

(I just purchased this exact one from same vendor about two weeks ago)

Hope that helps.

Re: A/C expansion valve ?

Will I have to split the evap core case in order to install it?

No. It sticks on the plumbing outside the case.
I should say you stick it on there. You need that sticky tar stuff to hold it to the AC pipe coming out of the evap.

Re: A/C expansion valve ?

There are two styles of AC expansion valve bulbs, one type has a coil at the end like Napa #207307, and one that has a long fat type bulb like Napa #207300. I have found that the large bulb type works best. The installation of the bulb is critical, it must be attached to the evaporator outlet pipe securely. You must clean the outlet pipe down to bare metal, clamp the bulb to the outlet pipe with hose clamps, then wrap securely with AC tape, making sure that no outside air can get to the bulb.
