Ordered a Tremec tonight

My new engine is almost ready to start, just have a few minor things to touch up.

As I was putting the Saginaw 4-speed back in, I'm thinking more and more that its probably not gonna survive the new engine. I was always kind of worried about it behind the ailing 220HP 327, now behind a fresh 327 build to 350 HP specs......kind of doubt it will live.

I also hate the high RPM on the highway.

Spent the last few days searching the forum and gathering info, and got a couple of quotes on the TKO 600.

American Powertrain had the entire kit, looks like everything I will need, and it came up to $3900. Hurst Driveline was over $4500 for the same package. I could probably do it a little cheaper if I pieced it all together separately, but that seems like more chances for issues.

So, I'm getting new clutch, trans, mid mount shifter with 3" 360 degree adjustable offset, shift lever, crossmember, trans mount, speedo cable, driveshaft, hardware, etc. Already have a machine shop making and adapter ring to mate it all up to the stock bellhousing.

Should arrive in 2 weeks for installation.

Re: Ordered a Tremec tonight

I have a Tremec in my pickup with 3.73's - I could actually very easily go down to 4.11's and still not turn hard at 70. Very nice tranny.

I think for my truck (3.73) is calculates to 2100 rpm at 70 mph.

my truck was a 3 ott. so the floor cutout is custom. It should clear the bench better than what I have now though.

The tremec shifter bolts into the top of the trans and connects to an internal linkage using a ball link. One of the members here (T56 I think) did a thread several years ago on moving the shifter forward using a Keisler Engineering kit that moves the linkage to the inspection plate which makes it just perfect for one of our trucks. I think that places the shifter in the stock location. Here is a link to that thread.

Good luck with your truck! And yes, that Mazda is a Ferrari killer.

Thanks. I ordered it with the mid mount shifter already set up. American Powertrain has a complete kit just for our trucks with everything supposedly figured out.

Good thing! That mid mount will save you a lot of heartache. Using the Keisler "kit" requires dismantling the entire transmission. Beyond the skills of most of those who post here.
