Re: New Member w/72 K5 blazer
Too far gone....you need to sell it to me!
That's a clean K5 that looks great. My 2 cents based on my recent K20 resto: take A LOT of photos before tearing into it; use the correct flat paint atop the dash; have the black bolts/screws/nuts, hood hinges, hood latches, upper metal rad tube, door latches, and AC vac pod bracket zinc phosphate coated rather than painted; don't throw anything away; if motor is original skip the decking on a rebuild so as to preserve the stamped codes that denote use in a K5; and start a build thread we can follow. Good luck!

I was planning to power coat the above mentioned pieces, would you suggest zinc phosphate first and then power coat?

Re: New Member w/72 K5 blazer
Somewhere on my K20 build thread linked below I have a pic of phosphate coated (or "Parkerized") door latches. Once coated as such the parts are good to go and approximate what GM did. I would not add a powder coat nor would I powder coat items (like door latches) that will see some wear/abuse.

Re: New Member w/72 K5 blazer
Likewise. As much as looks good from the outside, mines a mechanical mess right now. motor leaks from multiple areas, transmission, and TC leak as well. I could try and fix those issues, but if I have the motor, tranny and TC out, I might as well do frame off, so I'm going to hold out until I'm ready do a frame off restor

I now see which parts you are referencing mentioned above. However, please forgive me for being a rookie, but I don't know which of these parts you're referring to: "AC vac pod bracket" Thanks, Mike

Re: New Member w/72 K5 blazer
Great question - this bracket is specific to 4wd trucks/blazers with A/C. If you look at your engine pic above (the one that shows the fiberglass A/C box bolted to the firewall) you'll notice on the inner side a plastic round "ball" thing. That's the vac pod - the bracket it bolts to is the one I reference. 2wd trucks and non-A/C 4wds do not have that bracket. Can be a PITA to find if you need one.

Re: New Member w/72 K5 blazer
Welcome too the board and congrats on your find. I like the color too. Sure the blue and orange ones are sharp, but dark olive looks sharp.
Your Blazer feels familiar to me..... It's pretty similar to mine! Posted via Mobile Device
