I found a CLEAN cab how much should i pay?
A few days ago I was driving along the road to the store, and i pass this old tow truck like I always do with out much thought. but recently after stripping the paint off my cuurent cab(and finding out that it is basically more bondo than metal) Ive been on the prowl for a good cab locally. I realized that this cab was a 67-72, so i decided to take a look. The Cab doesn't have a spec of rust on it, and was stright as an arrow and i figured it to be a 72 becuase it had the foot parking brake, and the mirror is on the glass not on a bracket. I got the number off the plywood and called. the owners reported that the truck was being sold for $350 to a guy who just wanted the front bumper. so i got his number from them and contacted him. he seems pretty knowlegable on what hes got, and reported it as being a "top of the line cab" a.k.a. it has every original option, A/C, padded Dash, etc. im not sure about power windows, but anyway. hes got a 68 GMC sitting out in his field for $200 which is a pretty good project in itself, except it looks like some one cut a hole in the roof for some sort of sun roof.
So knowing what I have told here... If everything looks good, what should I start the offer at? I was thinking maybe offering $200 with the lever behind it of, "well your selling an entire truck for $200." any thoughts? ive got $400 in cash at the moment. sorry for such a long post --Scott |

Welcome to the board, sounds like you can get a $200 GMC and you want to buy the mint 72 A/C cab for $200 or less? I say if you can get that cab for anything less than $1000 to jump all over it. The value of it may be worth up to $1500. Good luck with the project and keep us informed.

Pay the 350 if he knows that much about these trucks you offering 200 just might piss him of . Well worth more than 350 .

there's a rustfree 70 cab at pick-n-pull in merced, at least it was there a week ago. it needs a dash due to some moron taking the ignition switch out with tin snips but otherwise it's perfect. a dash is easy to swap out. i believe a gutted cab is under 200 bucks there.

If the cab is in the condition that you say it is in and you are sure that it's not bondo'd up I would say that it is definately a good deal. Does it include the doors? If it does and they are in good shape definately worth it.
Just ask the guy if he is willing to work with you on the price if your serious. Hell, if he knocks off 50 bucks you have 50 bucks to put towards parts. Good luck!

thanks everyone for the input... here where it stands. I got the cab today for $350 it came with one door passenger side. no rust that i can find, so if its there there isn't much. its got a small dent in the rocker and a shallow dent in the roof. I can't Wait to start!!!
