Front anti sway bar question

I have a new problem. Without looking closely at my 65 Chev C10 I ordered front stabilizer bushings from Classic, #74-811, which is really a Moog K8204. Upon trial fitting them on the bar I found them to be too small. The unit appears to be factory as the brackets are riveted to the frame but the bar diameter is 15/16 and these bushings are for 3/4 inch bars. I looked on the Moog site and all they list for 64 is 11/16 dia and for 65, 66 and 67 they list bushings for 3/4 inch bars. In 1968 Moog offers bushings for 1-1/16, 1-1/8, 1-3/16 and 1-1/4 inch bars. They are also the correct style for my clamps.
What the heck do I have and where do I find bushings for a 15/16 inch bar?

The bushings will have a gap in them until you tighten the clamp down, this ensures a good tight fit

yup, you kinda have to crank on them a little bit.
I've had to do sway kits on other cars, and trust me this is the easier method. Ones that don't have split bushings, or ones that don't have any real movement in the clamp are a PITA. Usually you have to grease the living heck out of the things, but wd40 works since it dries out in a little, wherease grease gets all over.

Here's some pics of my issue. I know there should be a gap when installed so they tighten down but these bushings are made for a 3/4 diameter bar not 15/16 diameter like I have. You can see what a 3/4 diameter bar would look like, a normal looking gap. Looking at my current sway bar set-up you can see the style of the bushing is not the same either. The bushings and clamps look like the ones that ECE sells for their 1-1/4 bar.
I can't find any reference to any 15/16 sway bars on our trucks so maybe some previous owner installed an aftermarket one and used the factory brackets on the frame. I guess if I can't find the correct bushings for this diameter bar I'll need to get a more common one from a wrecking yard and buy Moog bushings for a later model truck. Pictured is from Moog site, Part number K6169 for many years and models. 68 and up. They also have that style in 1-1/8, 1-3/16 and 1-1/4 but not 15/16.
Anyone have a similar sway bar size?

I had no idea the size of my sway bar so I just went out and tried some wrenches on it. The bar turns out to be 1 1/16". It was on the 1975 front suspension I swapped in a number of years ago. I probably bought the bushings from Napa Auto, as I see they still carry that size. I checked through all of the bushings they offer and 1 1/16" is the smallest they list back to 1968. For 1967 they show only 3/4". I couldn't find anything in 15/16".

Thanks for checking Mark. I guess when I re-do the front suspension I'll just change out the sway bar to a 1-1/16 or 1-1/4 inch as they seem to be the more common sizes. Then I should be able to get the right bushings. All the front end components appear to be stock, even the ball joints are riveted in.
Maybe a good winter project although all the joints are still tight and greased so it's not a high priority fix.

Anyone else have any odd sway bar sizes?

I feel better now. I searched the Moog site for sway bar bushings and came up with their universal sway bar bushing page. It shows all kinds of different sizes. When you click on any size it brings up possible usages for that bushing. That's where the Ford usage comes from. Whew!

i just got a factory sway bar off a 65 that was also 15/16". i ordered the same moog sway bar bushings #k8792 also, so ill know in a few weeks how it'll go together. glad i came across this thread as i almost did the same and ordered 3/4" bushings

I took a sway bar from the salvage yard and measured the diameter with a caliper. Took that measurement and bought Energy Suspension Polyurethane bushings from local auto parts stores. Kind of late but I hope this helps...

No, I appreciate the reply. The 15/16 is sort of an oddball and all my local places don't have them. I have them ordered from Moog. I talked w/dean jendro who opened this thread to see if he encountered any issues....he went with a larger sway bar. So I'll get some pics of the install with the 15/16" bar to add to the thread. Thanks again for the reply.
