Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
I am beginning to think that these old square may go up in value in the future because the cost to repair more modern vehicles is getting ridiculously expensive. (I just got estimates from $700-$900 to replace a leaking heater core in my Cavalier because the entire dash and all the fixins have to come out(something I don't feel comfortable doing myself). I replaced my 83 C20 heater core for $40 and about 2 hours of amateur labor.
An old 350 1/2 ton square can get 13/17 mpg, and a new 2014 truck will get 18/25 mpg, but unless you drive your truck a lot (like 20K miles per year), you will be money ahead on driving an old square. Since there are still a lot of rust free square around, I think they will be more in demand in future years.
Having said that, I think we will see no more than $3-5K for daily drivers in good shape for the next few years.
