Question Should I spray the bed or not?

So I can't afford all new hardware and wood for my bed yet but I can't figure out if its better to do some spray on Bed liner on the sides and the strips or to leave it to be painted later on. I'm planning on selling the truck later on so I'm unsure of which to do your thoughts?

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

I would say leave it be for the time being, it doesn't seem to be in very rough shape so that's my vote! Keep it the same for till later.

Since you'll sell it prolly later leave it. Let the other person spray it if they wish...

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

I would pressure wash it real good and let it ride. The new owner may not like spray in on a wood bed stepper, I know I wouldn't like it.

On another note, I do like the truck! You have came a long way. Good Job!!

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

I'm at that pointe with my painter.
He doesn't want anything to do with inside the bed detailing and painting it.
It's a tough call on your truck.
If you plan on selling it in the future, then give the next owner an easier time on the bed floor.
I like the above reply stating to spray clean it.
Then you can see what you've got.

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

I'm with 07XCSBZ71, clean it and that's it. Then again, to me, spray in bedliner screams "I'm hiding something".

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

Bed is too sweet to ruin it with the spray. Little wax on the scratches should protect from further rust and let it be.

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

spray in bedliners are one of the few mods that will actually increase your trucks value. plus make it pretty much impervious to anything.
dont care how cherry your box is, if you use it, a liner will keep it cherry longer & better than anything else out there. not to mention cleans the looks right up.
and there not super expensive, did my LB, stayed under the bed rails & didn't do the t.gate-$430 out the door (line-x)
my boss does all his company trucks with it, we can drop a 100 lb roll from 20 ft up on the roof with no effects what so ever

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

If you're talking about having it professionly spayed (LineX, Rhino, etc.) I can't see it being that much cheaper than replacing the hardware & wood. If your planning to sell later I wouldn't do anything except maintain what you have... save your money! I have the bed rhino-lined in my fleetside '79 and I like it, but I wouldn't spray a wood-floored stepper.

No not line x or anything. I've seen some pretty good results from the store brand stuff when the prep is good. My main reason is to help the value if I can but it can be removed if they so wished

I don't want to ruin potential value all the while I want it to look more presentable

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

I think the answer lies within your intentions. If your selling, I would leave it alone. If keeping, and you plan to use it like a truck is suppose to be used, spray it.
My vote: Keep the truck.

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

I say leave it since its a stepper. I dont think it will ever look right on the sides and gate with the wood floor. Plus its a PIA to remove if the next owner ever decides on a full restore and wants paint instead. Just my .02 since you asked....

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

If you are going to sell it. Clean up what you've got the best you can.But I wouldnt spray it.

I've walked away from a couple of trucks for spray in liners (of course I've walked away for a lot smaller things too)

Re: Should I spray the bed or not?

INSIDIOUS, have you thought about trying something different?
this is the back of my stepper (yeah, it's a '90, whatever)

did this 15-16 yrs ago. couldn't afford a spray in then. it's alum. (18 gauge), i put a little silicone behind it to kill rattles, slips up under the bed trim & i bent a 90 on the bottom so the mat sits on it.
it used to be just as shiny as the bed trim, & didn't have no dents & dings.
one day i'll get my buddy to polish it back up ( he does big rig wheels)

This is what I and everyone else is thinking I'm sure
I would keep it but right now it's a bank that will fund my families k5 when sold and get wheels for my red truck.

I think I will just pressure wash it and wax and seal the bed and prevent further damage. May make some planks for it further on down the road
