Will the backing flang off a 96 impala rear disc brakes fit on a 85 c10. ... I know the kits are cheap. .. I just like the fact that I can just get everything I need at one of the local parts yard. ..

Re: rear disc brakes

I just bought a caprice rear yesterday. No, the backing plates will not fit without modifications. The truck uses a larger housing end than the car. There aren't any in the local salvage yard here. I looked all over for this one.....

Re: rear disc brakes

Just order a kit from Capt Fab in our Vendor marketplace. I understand your desire to use over the counter parts, but the brackets are not a "wear item" . Once they are installed you shouldnt ever have to worry about them again.

Re: rear disc brakes

Enlighten us o'wise Squarebody Gurus. I really don't understand that well. I've seen a few "kits" for rear disc brakes go for around $500. What's this bracket that's needed? Once we install the bracket, then we can install disc brakes from an impala? If so, what years are recommended?

Re: rear disc brakes

a set of weld-on brackets for stock cars can achieve the same end. if a person has a mind to do so. I'm a more out of the box thinker then some. but that's how we put disc brake rears on rock crawling jeeps. brackets. calipers and hardware off a mid to late 80's midsize GM. banjo bolts, lines and pads gtg... there are some calipers w provisions for an emergency brake as well... some web research can tell you part numbers n costs and I'm sure somewhere has a video showing the task.

The bracket bolts to the housing end and the caliper carrier bolts to it. You can use whatever caliper you want, he makes several brackets. If you use the Impala setup I'm not sure if the parking brake assembly will be retained with the Captainfab brackets.

Re: rear disc brakes

The rear end swap is not a bolt in you'll have to cut off all the mount tabs and weld on spring perches and shock mounts,Not sure if you have to mess with the drive shaft or not.On the two bracket kits read the post in them they list what rotors and calipers you need to have.
