Re: 54 Chevy shortbed??
I don't know of one but doesn't the '54 have the same flat-topped bed sides the '55 thru mid 60's step side boxes do? If so there oughta be LOTS of those boxes available via Craigslist. If not, repair yours with parts from Mar-K.

Re: 54 Chevy shortbed??
Even though the 54/55.1 have the flat top bedsides--They are not the same as the later bedsides cosmetically. The 54/55.1 have stamped sides. They are embossed and have a raised area around the fender. I would want the embossed sides if at all possible. They were only a 1.5 year deal.

By the time it's all said and done you would most likely be better off just buying a bed from Mar-K and being done with it. That may be both $$$ and time and quality wise by the time you are done. Over the years I've looked at probably 200 beds that were for sale for 47/53 AD trucks and 175 of those were worse than what I was trying to replace and the sellers still wanted top dollar. I've seen a few 54 beds but they usually want big bucks for those.

Re: 54 Chevy shortbed??
I paid $250 for mine at a swap meet at the Puyallup fairgrounds 2 years ago. Not perfect, but no rust and minimal work required to get it straight. Deals ARE out there, but you have to be patient and not buy the first thing that comes along.

Re: 54 Chevy shortbed??
not saying i'm old or anything... but i paid $300 for my first 58 pickup, driving and running, no work required
so other than the embossed fender line the bed is the same dimensions 50x74 with flat top rail

Re: 54 Chevy shortbed??
I don't think I'd get all wrapped around the axle over the embossed bedsides if the other ones are otherwise identical and are all over the place for 30 years. That is unless you're doing a 100 point concours restoration.
