55-59 Pocket kit

Has any seen or used a pocket kit on a truck, would it work ok?

What's the original application for that kit? It appears to be a setup to move rear springs to the inside of their normal position on cars like Novas that don't have separate frames on the rear half.

71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Never heard of a "pocket kit" so I don't know what those parts do but they appear to be leaf spring related.

Check out JJ's (Chuckdriver) build thread. He used a kit to move his leaf springs UNDER the frame, not inside.

That kit is for a 55-57 car, and yes it moves the spring under the frame.

Re: 55-59 Pocket kit

The idea of the pocket kit is to get the springs up higher, because they sit directly under the 55-57 passenger car frame. On the truck, your springs are next to the frame, so there's no reason to use a pocket (plus, there's no kickup on the truck frame).

If you want to lower the truck, then do an axle flip kit, but if you're looking for more tire clearance, a 4-link kit might suit your needs better.

Re: 55-59 Pocket kit

You don't need a kit to move the rear springs under the frame on a truck. All you need are front spring mounts. They bolt to the rear and maintain the exact center to center distance with a couple of simple mods and drilling a couple of holes. Gives you plenty of room for tires.
