Turn signal problem
Long trubleshooting story short...my front right turn signal will only work if I hold upward pressure on the turn signal lever. Obviously I need to take it apart and see if I can make adjustments where contact is made, maybe just clean it up. I looked at the manual and it seems my first step is to remove the horn button but it doesn't say how. Just says remove it. Do I just pull until it comes off? I don't want to break anything.
Thanks! |

Re: Turn signal problem
Probably the cancel cam is broke. Its should hold the lever either up or down depending on which side is signaling. A very common issue. Cancel cams are available aftermarket through most vendors.

Re: Turn signal problem
OK, thanks. It's odd that it works for the right rear but not the right front or right dash arrow. I'll find out when I get in there. Thank you for the correct part name.

Re: Turn signal problem
Im assuming that you have checked all bulbs and wiring too. The factory didn't ground these trucks very good, and it is advised that you should add grounds to all your lights. There is also a bulb in your gauge cluster that may have gone out. They are accessible from behind the dash cluster. Also check your blinker switch...located on the fuse panel. They are cheap to replace $2-3 or so. Do you have park lights when you pull the headlight switch out one notch?

Re: Turn signal problem
Yes, I went through all that thoroughly and was stumped. Then accidentally put a lot of upward pressure on the turn signal lever - bling, it all worked. But only if I hold it up with 3 or so pounds of pressure.

Re: Turn signal problem
Yeah, Id be willing to bet the cam is broken inside and a piece of the plastic is stopping it from going all the way up. Pull the horn cap and assembly. Use a wheel puller and pull the wheel. The rest is pretty easy as you'll be able to see once the wheel is removed. Its time consuming, but actually an easy fix.

Re: Turn signal problem
If you take the steering wheel apart, put an X on the round, dish shaped metal plate (see below) so you know which side faces up when you put it back together or you might end up doing double work to flip it around. The plate completes the circuit for the horn.

Re: Turn signal problem
The same thing happened to mine. I took apart the whole switch and nothing was broken. The actual metal contacts that make the connection weren't close enough to touch. I took it apart and bent them closer and I worked great for a while then quit again. Its hard to explain but I know I've seen a thread on here about someone doing it to theirs. I need to do mine again but I think I have an old broken one I can take a picture of.

Re: Turn signal problem
I got it working, just like you described the contacts were not close enough. I played with it a bit and it works fine now. Nothing is physically broken.
Now to troubleshoot the fuel gauge..... Posted via Mobile Device |
