Summit Racing tilt column

Has anyone installed one of these columns? I just bought one from ebay and want to know what it takes to install. Also what neutral safety switch?

Re: Summit Racing tilt column

The following .pdf is good reading on steering columns. It is a paper from the Low Volume Vehicle Technical Association Inc and they are responsible for New Zealand's hot rod inspections.

Cliff notes: it makes note of brands that are quality and others that can fail.

The four recognized aftermarket steering column manufacturers are:
‘Ididit’
‘Flaming River’
‘Billet Specialties’
‘Limeworks’ (Note that ‘Limeworks’only produce fixed (non-tilt) columns)

It's nice to see that somebody is out there worrying about the safety of cars, unfortunately there is no oversight in the US for safety items such as these. Perhaps SEMA could send out warnings to retailers, but I'll stay out of that one. The Kiwi's go as far as rejecting aftermarket columns that aren't from the four mentioned brands and not allowing vehicles equipped with them to be driven.

What size & splines does a '72 3/4 ton w/ power steering have? I need to get a universal joint for it.

Re: Summit Racing tilt column

I'm not sure that is a fail-safe steering column, you purchased. Please check it out before you install it.

I am going to use it until I get the '72 van tilt rebuilt. It won't be on the street.
