pto winch question
to work a PTO winch with a manual tranny truck, do you hook it up to the tranny then put the transfer case in nuetral and engage the clutch to make it work, and the more rev=the faster pull, or am i totally off my rocker and they work nothing like a tractor PTO?
(i dont have one, but would like to someday on the K20)

Heres my 2 cents....From the trucks that i've worked on that have pto's the pto is bolted onto the side of the transfer case. On the transfer lever there are 4 positions. neutral, low, high, and then one for the pto itself. (could be wrong) you should then have another lever to engage the pto itself. You will have to press the clutch in to engage that lever. Once the pto is running it's the same as the tractor, more rpm, more pto speed. Hope that helps some

WRMZ71 is correct about most of it.
The only part he said that was wrong (I used to own one) is the x-fer case does not have a position for the PTO. The rest is correct. You just put the X-Fer case in Nutral, pull the big red knob whilr the clutch is in, select the gear you want to be in (with your 4 speed manual transmission) and let out the clutch, and give it gas.

They can be bolted to the side of the tranny also. SM465 has the mounting spots as does the SM420.
