63 5 Lug Axle/Drum Question

I want to convert to 5 lug. I have a 12 bolt with press fit drum flange and a 30 spline posi.

Can someone tell me what drums and axles I need? Is there a disc set-up for this rear?

I did a search but I'm still unsure.

saves alot of work finding parts since someone converted it to 30 spline for you. 17 spine axles aren't easy to find.

I bought the posi and axles from a member on here. All new bearings and yoke went in with it, I just want some different wheels now.

What about the drums? Part #? or bone yard donor?

If I understand your first post correctly, it sounds like you have a '63 truck 12 bolt with the pressed on backing plates? If so, the only way you will be able to convert to rear disc brakes, will require some welding. If you wish to just stay with drums, you will need some for a '71+ C10 with the 2" wide shoes.

Yes, I have the pressed on backing plates. I don't mind doing any welding if there is a pre-made kit/brackets and some detailed instructions

With the pressed on backing plates, you will have to weld on a caliper bracket. There are no kits with detailed instructions for something like this, that I know of. You will have to piece it together. Speedway is one of the sellers that have the weld on caliper brackets. The other alternative would be to weld on a backing plate flange as was used on the '64 and up 12 bolts. That would have to be welded onto the axle tube, perfectly perpendicular to the axle centerline. Then you could use any of the rear disc brackets that I sell. If you really want rear disc brakes, it would be easier to just switch your differential housing for a '64 to early '70 12 bolt. Or even a '71-'87 10 or 12 bolt that are already 5 lug, but those are 1.5" wider.

I think it'll be easier sticking with the drum brakes. I just rebuilt the rear that I have now so there's really no point in changing.
