62 GMC 3 door

I recently found a 62 GMC 3 door and the owner claims it's 1 of 3 and that the other 2 were destroyed. I was curious if anyone knew anything about these? I'd like to buy it but need some background info.
Thanks

Re: 62 GMC 3 door

crewcab?
or a sub?

there are still some of both around...not the only one left, but yes very rare...

photos:
dinos crew is a 3 door.
this yosemite park bus could be considered a 3 door, although it is actually a 5-just has 3 extra doors.

and this ambulance is an example of some of the converted panel 3 doors..

Re: 62 GMC 3 door

I saw pictures of a 3 door built by custom coach builders. The philosofy was such that it impeeded passengers to exit into traffic. I believe International ran with the idea to start in regular production then GM jumped in later in production models with a four door for convienience.

I have heard that the 3-doors that were used by the railroad were purchased for that reason as well.

Re: 62 GMC 3 door

Worth is a relative term.

There are some people that have restored them and sunk lots of $ into them and when time to sell want $70K plus.

I would try to get it for under $1k, but dont be surprised if the guy is knowledgeable of what he has, that it climbs into the $2-4K area.

Re: 62 GMC 3 door

preacherman5555 paid $900 for his.
I missed a nice one on ebay for $2200
there is one forsale in colorado for $3500, but a member had talked him down to 2500, then decided it was too rough to deal with.
there is another for sale in colorado that has been $6000 for years now... also a very rough one for that money...

there have also been a few on ebay over the last couple of years in the $4500 range.

Imo $4500 would not be out of line for that, however if you want to move it right away, probably in the $1500 to $2500 range...
you also might get lucky on ebay and be the actual victor of a bidding war!

Re: 62 GMC 3 door

The guy wants $4500 for it and I really don't need it but it's a cool truck.

Re: 62 GMC 3 door

he asked what the price would be without the big block, and some extra parts... then the owner sent him the pics of the roof, had a tree fall on it I think, and the passenger rear door was wiped out....the damage wasn't visible or mentioned in the inital ad.
