Re: My 65 on 68 Frame Build

The late '70 and up axles are 3/4" too long for the early '70 and earlier 12 bolt housings. They do fit the splines in the spiders and all, but the brake drums will not cover the shoes completely.

Re: My 65 on 68 Frame Build

It looks like something is not original. I don't remember if the 2-3/4" wide brakes were available in '71 or not. That may explain the measurement. The '63 to early '70 C10 differentials measure 62" WMS to WMS (wheel mounting surface), and the late '70 to '87's measure 63.5". That is the measurement that matters. The backing plate where most guys measure is not a constant. That can change depending on the brakes. Check where your axles ride on the axle bearings.

Re: My 65 on 68 Frame Build

There is a plunger switch that mounts in that hole on your glovebox frame that turns a light on in the GB when the door is opened.
It was a factory (maybe dealer as well) option.

Replacements for that whole assembly are available from numerous suppliers.

Hope that answers your question.
