long bed step side question
just looked at a 72 long bed stepside. There was some rust in the fenders where the fenders meet the bed sides and some in the leading edge of the steps. There was typical rust in the cab but all that there are patch panels for. My question is , do we have to fabricate all the rust repair in the bed , find used parts , or are there sources I haven't found yet? Also , how uncommon is it to find a no option ( only tinted windshield) long bed these days?

Re: long bed step side question
I'm just getting started on my swb stepside but I will share what I know.
My dad's bed (my truck was his before) rotted out but he made is own bed from 1/8 inch steel plate and plug welded it to the frame (easy enough to take off, just unbolt and jack up). So that is one solution for you there. Bolting it down with carriage bolts may be even easier. The rear fenders can be bought aftermarket but no one makes a side spare tire one (I'm currently searching for OEM). I've never seen a lwb stepside in person.....it seems to depend on where one lives. |

Re: long bed step side question
Thanks for the input. Do you know the source for the aftermarket fenders?

Re: long bed step side question
I think I know a few: Tucker's has them and so does LMC (although they are suspect). GMCPauls does too I think.

Re: long bed step side question
Anyone who sells Tri-Plus sheet metal can get you the fenders and steps. Bedsides, too, and they are available from Mar-K as well. You can build a brand new bed.

Re: long bed step side question
I don't think the long bed steps are repopped but you should be able to build/rebuild a set from the shorts and leftovers of yours.

Re: long bed step side question
LMC, Brothers I believe and Early Classic sell parts. Early Classic actually has the original parts sometimes too.
I own a Longbed Stepside and I've only seen one other in person, and 3 others in pictures. Mine is a 68 Longbed Step. Love it to pieces man. No Idea how rare they are...

Re: long bed step side question
Thanks to all of you who have responded . I think we will buy it even though I will end up buying nearly every patch panel made .Its a running driver. Just love the look of a "work " truck, plus it would be a shame not to save a plain jane in the stock condition. Only option that I know of is a tinted windshield, that's basic!

Re: long bed step side question
I forgot we were talking long Stepside when I posted about reproduction steps. Benny,I think shipping cost wouldn't be so bad. I've had then shipped to me before and it wasn't that bad.

Re: long bed step side question
Benny,
I don't need a set of steps but if you want to get rid of those, they might come in handy sometime. PM me with your prices if you like. |

Re: long bed step side question
Thanks again for all your input. Since the other day I have come up with 2 other long stepsides for sale in my area. One of them is almost rust free for about the same money as the rusty one. Got to go look at it pronto. Going to buy one of them!!!
