Fuel gage accuracy
Anyone have an opinion regarding which aftermarket fuel gages are the most accurate? Replaced mine about a year ago and it hits the 1/2 full mark after the tank is down 14 gallons (on a 20 gallon tank). Also has some grounding issues with the needle way over to the right, occasionally reads normally though.
I get the impression that inaccurate fuel gages are pretty normal based on feedback from this site. 85 GMC |

yeah the ground strap for the sender is bolted to the top of the frame rail and gets rusty which causes a crappy connection over time... I didn't even bother looking at mine but i got under the truck, unbolted it, sanded the frame a bit and the connector, then re-attached. haven't had a problem since.

Use the odometer. 10 mpg x 18 gallons = 180 miles.

I got a replacement gauge from Classic Parts (about $50) and it has been accurate for about the past 6 years. I replaced the sending units in both tanks with aftermarket Spectra brand units and they cause the gas gauge to bounce, but the gauge reads accurately when the vehicle is stopped. I have had 3 old squares and this is the only one which needed a gas gauge. They all needed sending units.
