Boy did I get a big break!!!

In a quest to find a mint tailgate for my 76' cheyenne. I found this one with a story to go with it. The owner said it was a brand new take off that had set in someone's attic. It was taken off a brand new truck to install the oh so popular camper back in the day. 2 to 3 weeks later the truck was stolen. It sat in the original owner's attic for 28 years! The guy I bought it from then had it in his attic for another 7 or 8 years. He even gave me a mint narrow band with it.
I felt I was on Wayne Carrini's chasing "tailgates" for a minute. It's pictured with dust. But all in all as near as nos as ill ever be able to afford.

Congrats! I got one just like that in the attic but it is Colonial Yellow with a white stripe. It was pulled off my dad’s truck when it was new and has been in storage very since. And no…it is not for sale

Yeah, but a lot more of 'em ripped 'em completely off when they left the tailgate up when they unhooked a gooseneck trailer - I saw it happen twice!

Unfortunately no. I have a catalina blue and white truck. The green is a pretty unique, classic looking color however.

Too bad, that tailgate looks so nice I would not even want to paint it!

Interesting comment. In my opinion a new take off is more desirable than NOS. A new take off is from 1976. It is not a new one Chevy made in 1990 with dies that had been rebuilt or maybe even used for 15+ years. Plus it has original paint, it doesn't get any better than that. I would definitely pay more for a new take off than I would for NOS.

Re: Boy did I get a big break!!!

not to often you see a t.gate that straight.
my father in law's friend owns a mink farm, they have a fleet of pick-ups with winches in the bed. drive to other farms & winch dead cows in the back. naturally the gate would get destroyed, so they have a stack of good to mint gates out back & yeah, there's a few square gates in there. thats where i got my second camping tailgate from
