So I opened the fender and radiator core support from Jeremiah King. Both are impressive...rather hard to believe there are trucks out there in rust free condition! BUT...

UPS dented the fender! How hard will that be to fix?

*I did pay for insurance.

That doesn't look too bad. You can get to it from behind. Just take something with a straight edge, put it in the creases and knock it out. A little plastic filler and you should be good to go.

When I was still working in the dealer body shop, I saw worse than that on brand new fenders from the factory. I fixed a brand new El Camino that had two BIG dents in the roof from the transport. Another time, we got in a new Caddie that had a bullet hole in one of the fenders.

That will buff right out. Just kidding! That shouldn't be too hard to fix. I am curious, like the others, on how UPS is going to handle it? Pay you the insured limit? Pay you to fix it? Have you take it somewhere to have it fixed? These are some of the questions inquiring minds need answers to.

That's not real bad and should not cost a lot. The real question is what level of coverage did you buy? If a few hundred, that should cover.

UPS will pay for the fix or up to the insured limit which ever is less with a verifiable estimate. They will also want to see the packaging and look at the packaging damage in relation to the damaged part. I've done a few of these.

They always tell you the packaging wasnt up to par, then you argue with them and they wind up paying anyway. I despise UPS.

I can't stand UPS either. Fedex is the WAY! Much more reliable and a heck of alot cheaper.

I'd love to know how they got that dent in there. That's a fairly solid area of the fender to dent. Must have ran it over with a fork lift! On purpose!!

Each package deliver damaged means they failed to do their job,which sure happens a lot! I guess not throwing packages would help. When I pack I always consider any possible way those monkeys could abuse it...short of running over it. I never ship UPS,not that others never damage,but it hurts a tad less when not paying the highest possible price.

You know, this is the very reason I have items shipped to me at my work place so if the carton is damaged I can show it to the deliveryman right then so there's no question it arrived damaged. I know everyone cannot have their things sent to the workplace but if you can, do it.
As far as usps is concerned I recently has a small package shipped with priority mail and 2 day service out of Ga. Of course it costs more for that service. It took a week to get here. If I hadn't pursued it hard I might not have received it at all. The postmasters looked as if they could not care less about it. It was here in town for 3 of those days. They offered no apology or refund for the extra postage for the 2 day service which I did not get. The usps is putting themselves out of business!

I once bought a 1930's Luftwaffe-marked walnut K98 stock with hardware. The USPS literally broke it in half! For that stock to survive battle on the Eastern Front, capture, and 60 years in Soviet hands to be destroyed by the Post Office was truly sad. I'm glad I insured it and whenever I buy a stock now, I tell the seller to go get a rifle case to ship it in and I'll pay for the case.

Guess you guys never tried to collect from USPS!

I realize this is a large part so USPS probably never was an option, and yes, I think FEDEX rocks too!

Just sayin' you've never had problems with a claim like with the USPS, IMHO.

Matter of fact, I don't know anyone who ever DID collect from the postal (dis)service.

I am currently a postal contractor but I will not even try to defend them. I have worked for UPS as well. I allmost never ship with UPS. From what I witnessed your package does have a better chance of arriving safely with USPS. I am neutral on FEd EX at this point, I haven't had any problems with them. I ship several packages a week and use USPS exclusively. Partly for job security and what Iv'e seen go on at UPS. Price is also a factor as well. A fender like that might go USPS, just have to measure it up. I see fibreglass Volkswagon fenders allmost daily shipped USPS. I agree on trying collect from USPS, good luck and good luck with UPS.

I got the full $100.00 for the broken stock in 2005 from USPS. I also got the MO fully refunded from USPS when Classic Arms lost my payment for a Luger I ordered. *That was the last time I ever sent payment without stapling it to the order form! LOL

I highly doubt one of these fenders could ship USPS but have to say that as an ebay seller, I ship with the post office about 97% of the time and have had VERY LITTLE problems with them.

I have or the buyer has collected on insurance with no problems on those rare occasions.

Fedex so far has been excellent! I even have them pick the packages up for an extra $3 bucks which saves alot of hassle. (no drop off centers for 20 miles here)

UPS??? I wouldn't trust them to ship a big fluffy teddy bear! It would get dented up for sure. Plus they charge alot more.

Another option is to ship by Greyhound bus.

I'm glad you all had good experiences with the USPS.

I had a scope damaged by them. I followed all the guidelines and never received any compensation. Eventually I heard from others (on another website) who claimed they had items damaged and were never compensated.

Personally, I'll pay extra for FedEx from now on.
